With over 25 years of maritime and emergency service experience, Captain Thomas Cieslinski brings leadership, safety, and a deep respect for the water to every cruise aboard the Spirit. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Captain Tom served aboard the USS America (CV-66), one of the Navy’s most storied aircraft carriers, where he honed his skills in navigation, operations, and shipboard discipline during deployments around the world.

After his military service, Tom continued his dedication to public safety as a Detroit firefighter and certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), responding to countless critical situations with calm precision and care.

He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential and is certified in marine safety, CPR, and emergency response. Captain Tom’s calm demeanor, deep knowledge of Lake St. Clair, and passion for honoring life’s moments on the water make every cruise — from celebrations to memorials — a meaningful and memorable experience.

When he's not behind the helm, you’ll find him supporting veteran causes, boating with his family, or swapping sea stories with fellow sailors dockside.
